Background on Trimble

As we discussed in our previous blogs, Trimble construction technology stands alone from all other providers in the industry. Because we have a vested interested in making sure our prospective customers and clients understand how beneficial using SiTech is, we’’d like to start off today’s blog by offering up a bit of contextual background on Trimble Inc.

Founded in November of 1978 (over 40 years ago), Trimble is a California-based company that develops Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers, inertial navigation systems, laser rangefinders, and other software processing tools that supplement a range of applications. Industries Trimble touches include the following:

  • Construction
  • Agriculture
  • Telecommunications
  • Geospatial
  • Asset Tracking
  • Mapping
  • Utilities
  • Mobile Resource Management
  • Transportation & Logistics

Trimble now has close to 12,000 employees, as their role in construction, architecture, and building information modeling has expanded over the last half decade or so. And even as recently as last month, on February 12, 2019, Trimble launched a new division called Trimble MAPS (Maps and Applications for Professional Solutions), which merged Trimble’s TMW Appian Final Mile businesses and ALK Technologies (formerly separate entities). They combined ALK’s standard mileage, mapping, navigation, and routing with Appian’s fleet routing, optimization, and scheduling solutions. Practically speaking, this is a comprehensive optimization of commercial vehicle routing in a variety of facets:

  • Network Modeling
  • Strategic Route Planning
  • Trip Management & Execution
  • Real-Time Visibility
  • Post-Trip Analysis

Bryn Fosburgh, Trimble senior vice present, was quoted in a press release on the Trimble MAPS launch: “Traditional consumer mapping applications and solutions aren’t designed for the operational and safety requirements of commercial use. With Trimble MAPS, we’re committed to transforming the future of maps for work.”

General Manager MIchael Kornhauser echoed Mr. Fosburgh’s optimistic sentiments, “This platform enables companies to create end-to-end solutions that address both fleet-wide as well as vehicle-specific routing, scheduling, visualization and navigation needs. Not only does this broaden our reach in the transportation industry, it enables our expansion into a wide range of commercial vehicle-focused markets. Companies in these highly competitive markets are focused on increasing operational efficiency and providing superior customer service, driving the demand to build custom solutions with an advanced map-centric development platform.”

For business decision makers in Colorado, we hope it’s clear that utilizing Trimble’s near half-century of expertise is worth considering. Simply put, they create the right tools to do the job right. That’s exactly what we’ll be discussing in our next post, which will highlight Trimble site positioning systems in particular.
