Here at SITECH, we have perfected construction technology to help you manage your job site. Construction is a big job that yields big results. There are millions of moving parts on every job site, not to mention tons of earth and materials to move. It truly is amazing how great our construction feats have reached. To celebrate them, we have listed some of the world’s tallest buildings ever built here.
Burj Khalifa
Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Burj Khalifa boasts a complex tripedal design. It is designed to project the shape of its edges to cut into the wind just like a boat does to lessen turbulence. This affords the building with greater stability, and allowed it to reach its record breaking height. In fact, it is fully 700 feet higher than its closest competitor building, the Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel, measuring in at 2,717 feet tall.
Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel
Located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel is the second largest building in the world. Measuring in at an impressive 1,972 feet, this gigantic structure was built in 2012. It is essentially Big Ben, but done on a grander scale. Its purpose is to house Muslims who are making their holy pilgrimage, the Hajj. This building relies on a wider base to reach its amazing height.
One World Trade Center
Located in New York City, United States, the One World Trade Center measures in at an impressive 1,776 feet. IT was completed in the year 2014. Its height, 1,776 feet, is a nod to the founding year of the United States. However, the building proper only measures in at 1,300 feet, but the CTBUH decided to count the building’s spire in its official height. When it was built, it took the title of tallest building in North America from the Willis Tower in Chicago.
Taipei 101
Located in Taipei, Taiwan, the Taipei 101 measures in at an impressive 1,667 feet, and was built in the year 2004. It has a stacked pagoda look, which is common in buildings all across Asia. The building is split up into eight segments, and each segment split into eight floors. This is a nod to the numeral eight, which has a cultural and spiritual significance in the Chinese speaking world.
Shanghai World Financial Center
Completed in 2008, and measuring in at 1,614 feet, the Shanghai World Financial Center is the biggest building in China. Probably its most striking feature is a major hole at the top of the building. This hole gives the building the look of a bottle opener, which owners of the tower have capitalized on. You can, in fact, buy miniature replicas of the building that function as a bottle opener!
